AI is a teammate
Many security teams treat AI as a threat to contain. The usual response is a block and a policy. People use the tools anyway, on their phones, and security hears about it last.
I would rather put AI to work on the team's own problems. Take alert triage. An agent picks up each alert, pulls the user's recent logins and device state, and writes a short verdict with its evidence. A human reads the verdict and decides. Most alerts close in a minute. The hard ones arrive with the context already collected.
That is how a good junior colleague works. It does the legwork and shows its sources. You review the output and correct it, and you write the corrections down so the next run is better.
It needs the same controls as a person: scoped access, read-only by default, a log of what it did, and human approval before anything irreversible. A security team already knows how to apply these.
A team that works with AI learns its failure modes early, on low-stakes work. A team that avoids it meets them later, inside someone else's product.
Pick one queue that wastes your analysts' time and give an agent read-only access to it for a week.
